On September 23, 2024, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, the respected Emomali Rahmon, met with the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Mrs. Celeste Saulo, in New York.
Issues of Tajikistan's cooperation with WMO and the UN Global Climate and water agenda were discussed at the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the country, the respected Emomali Rahmon, recalled Tajikistan's global initiatives within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process and stated, in this context, that Tajikistan has been paying special attention to cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization for several decades.
An example of such cooperation is the plan to hold a high-level International Conference on Glacier Protection in 2025. Much attention was paid to issues related to climate change (floods, landslides and avalanches, etc.), the negative impact of natural disasters on the country's economy and other catastrophic consequences and their prevention.
Further strengthening of the technical potential of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan, professional development of staff and training of young specialists, especially in the field of hydrometeorology, climatology and hydrology, was recognized as an important and useful area of cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization.
Other issues of interest to both sides were also discussed during the meeting.
