Programmes on the Cryosphere and Climate Change was held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, attended by the management and industry experts of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders of the project, including national representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan, international cryosphere research experts, data management specialists, and policy makers. It should be noted that the regional project "Strengthening the resilience of Central Asian countries by facilitating regional cooperation in assessing glacial systems for the development of integrated methods of sustainable development and adaptation to climate change", funded by the GEF through UNDP and implemented by UNESCO, is aimed at solving the most important environmental problem in Central Asia.
The project highlights the importance of snow and glacial systems and permafrost systems (glacial systems) to ensure the region's water resources and sustainability.
