Visit of the Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization Celeste Saulo and representatives of the Asian Development Bank, as well as the Green Climate Fund to the Agency for Hydrometeorology

As part of the High-level International Conference on Glacier Protection, on May 28 this year, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization Celeste Saulo, as well as representatives of the Asian Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund visited the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The guests were warmly welcomed by the Chairman of the Committee, Sheralizoda B.A, and the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, A.H. Kurbonzoda, showing traditional Tajik hospitality.

First of all, the guests got acquainted with the activities of the Environmental Monitoring Department, the Laboratory for Monitoring Atmospheric Air Pollution, the Laboratory for Monitoring Surface Water Pollution, the Weather Forecasting Center and other structural divisions of the Agency. The guests expressed satisfaction with the attention of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to the field of hydrometeorology and the created working conditions.

During the visit, the parties discussed industry issues, including meteorology, hydrology, monitoring of atmospheric air and surface water quality, climate change, glaciology and other relevant topics.

It should be noted that the World Meteorological Organization promotes cooperation in the organization of hydrometeorological, climatic, hydrological and geophysical observations, as well as the exchange of relevant data, their processing and standardization. It also promotes technology transfer, educational and research activities, strengthens cooperation between the national meteorological services of the member countries and promotes the application of meteorology in such sectors as the State Meteorological Service, agriculture, aviation, shipping, environmental protection, water resources and the elimination of the consequences of natural phenomena.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a multilateral financial institution established in 1966 to support the socio-economic development of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

It is also worth recalling that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is one of the largest international financial mechanisms established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to support developing countries in combating climate change.
