36th session of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the CIS countries

On 25–26 September 2025, the 36th meeting of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan.

The 36th meeting of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the CIS countries became an important platform for discussing strategic directions and exchanging scientific and technical achievements in the field of weather forecasting and hazardous natural phenomena.

As is tradition, leaders and representatives of all national hydrometeorological services of CIS member countries took part in this high-level event.

The Republic of Tajikistan was represented at the meeting by the leadership and specialists of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, who emphasised the need to strengthen joint actions to protect the interests of the countries of the region in the context of climate change.

It should be noted that the presence of the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation, Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Ahmad Al-Mandus, gave the meeting special significance, opening up new opportunities for expanding international cooperation and deepening the exchange of experience between national services.

This high-level event contributes to the development of effective ways to obtain and use hydrometeorological information in a timely manner, as well as to strengthening partnerships between national hydrometeorological services.

The meeting addressed issues related to the development of national hydrometeorological services, strengthening cooperation within the CIS and the World Meteorological Organisation, as well as the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of  Hydrometeorological Activities of CIS Member States and its plan, global data and technology exchange system, improving the accuracy of forecasts and the effectiveness of hazard warning systems, developing joint projects and programmes to improve the qualifications of specialists, modernising technical infrastructure and introducing innovative methods.
