The Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of implementing the points of the "State Program for the Study and Protection of Glaciers of Tajikistan for 2010–2030," as well as in compliance with the requirements of the resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated August 31, 2023, No. 407 "On the Implementation of the UN Resolution on the International Year of Glacier Conservation," conducted scientific research and expeditionary work on the Dehdal Glacier in the Surkhab River basin from December 1 to 5 of the current year.
During the scientific research and expeditionary work, it was determined that as a result of the shift that occurred on October 25 of this year, a new mass of the glacier began to move again and advanced 520 meters down the valley in November (at a speed of 20 meters per day). Observations showed that the height of the moving glacier mass is 25–30 meters, with a width ranging from 80 to 120 meters.
It should be noted that the condition of this glacier is under constant monitoring by specialists from the Glaciology Center of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, and the results of scientific research on its status are regularly reported.
