The leadership of the Agency for Hydrometeorology participated in the Steering Committee meeting of the Central Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (CARFFGS)

On April 24, 2026, a meeting of the Steering Committee of the Central Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (CARFFGS) was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, in which the leadership and sectoral specialists of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan participated and delivered presentations.

The meeting was attended by the heads of the hydrometeorological services of Central Asian countries, including the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and other international partners.

The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen regional cooperation, exchange experience, and further improve the activities of the Central Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (CARFFGS).

During the meeting, the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, delivered a presentation highlighting the importance of the CARFFGS system for flash flood forecasting, the experience of the Republic of Tajikistan in the use of early warning systems, the need to strengthen technical and human capacity, the importance of

inter-agency cooperation particularly with the Committee of Emergency Situations and the necessity of expanding the application of modern technologies in practical operations. At the same time, it was emphasized that, due to technical reasons, the system is not used in certain cases, which negatively affects the quality of forecasts.

Participation in the meeting provided an opportunity to study advanced international experience in flash flood forecasting, the use of modern information and analytical systems, and risk management, as well as to create a solid foundation for their implementation in the practical activities of the Agency for Hydrometeorology.
