On April 27, 2026, the Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, met with Kamal Kishore, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Disaster Risk Reduction.
During the meeting, the participants were thoroughly briefed on the activities of the Agency’s departments, centers, and divisions, and also expressed satisfaction with the attention of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to the development of the hydrometeorological sector and the favorable conditions created for the work of specialists.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of further cooperation, as well as activities aimed at reducing the risks of hydrometeorological phenomena such as heavy precipitation (snow and rain), the occurrence of avalanches and mudflows, glacier melting, and glacial lake outburst floods. They also considered the use of modern technologies in this important field and identified and reviewed other priority tasks to expand cooperation.
