Mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank in the field of climate monitoring, glacier research and conservation is expanding every year. The Asian Development Bank, as one of the key development partners, provides ongoing support to the implementation of important industry projects aimed at strengthening technical capacity, developing a glacier monitoring system and adapting to climate change in Tajikistan.
In continuation of this cooperation, from June 8 to 12, 2026, representatives of the Asian Development Bank visited the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, where they reviewed the progress of the Project "Glacier Melting Management and Water Security", the results achieved and further plans for its implementation. During the meetings, issues of meeting project targets, financial and procurement plans, implementation of gender indicators, as well as other important aspects of the project were discussed.
On June 12, 2026, with the participation of representatives of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan, the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a ceremony was held to transfer modern equipment to the Agency for Hydrometeorology.
As part of the project, the Agency was provided with a complex of field, monitoring, information technology and geodetic equipment, as well as a snowmobile and a company car. This equipment will contribute to strengthening technical capacity, improving the system of observations and data collection, as well as improving the effectiveness of monitoring glaciers, water resources and hydrometeorological processes.
This initiative is an important step towards developing a national glacier monitoring system, strengthening water security, and implementing climate change adaptation measures in the Republic of Tajikistan.
