On 20 October 2026, an automatic weather station was installed at Murghob District Airport in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region as part of the implementation of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan’s Action Plan for the second half of 2026.
The installation of this station represents an important step towards modernizing the meteorological observation system, improving the quality of meteorological data collection and processing, and strengthening technical capabilities for the continuous monitoring of weather conditions in the country’s mountainous regions.
The automatic weather station is equipped with modern measuring instruments that enable the automatic, real-time measurement of several key meteorological parameters, including air temperature and humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind direction and speed, surface temperature, sunshine duration, and precipitation levels, including rainfall and snowfall.
The collected data are automatically transmitted to the Agency for Hydrometeorology’s Operational Data Collection Centre. This ensures the timely availability of essential meteorological information for weather analysis, the preparation of forecasts, and the assessment of meteorological conditions in the region.
It is worth noting that the use of modern automated meteorological technologies plays a particularly important role in expanding the observation network, enhancing the reliability of meteorological data, and improving the quality of meteorological services. Given the challenging terrain and climatic conditions of Murghob District, access to accurate and timely weather information is essential for assessing meteorological conditions, forecasting hazardous weather events, and ensuring the safety of various socioeconomic activities.
The Agency for Hydrometeorology continues to implement the necessary measures to strengthen the sector’s technical and material capacity, introduce modern technologies, and expand the meteorological observation network. These efforts are aimed at improving data quality and enhancing the accuracy of weather forecasts.
