PARIS AGREEMENT ON CLIMATE CHANGE.

The Republic of Tajikistan signed the Paris Agreement on April 22, 2016, and the country's parliament adopted this act on February 16, 2017. The country pays special attention to the adoption of appropriate measures, which are an important part of sustainable development.

In 2019, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the first among the states of Central Asia, adopted the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change until 2030.

Under the Paris Agreement, which asks countries to review their certain national contributions every five years to limit greenhouse gas emissions, prevent increases in ground temperatures, and adapt to climate change impacts. The improvement and implementation of the UN convention creates significant opportunities for countries to adapt climate programs and develop sustainable development, but there are challenges in coordinating these goals with policies and existing operations, as well as mobilizing domestic and external resources.

In this context, the Climate Improvement Package (CMAP) under the Defined National Contribution Partnership provides technical and financial support to countries to improve the quality and their contribution to the Paris Agreement. PUMK provides assistance to developed countries, members of partners for a certain national contribution in achieving the following two main goals:

• Goal 1: Improve the defined national contribution, including by increasing targets, as part of the process of updating the defined national contribution to the Paris Agreement footnotes;

• Objective 2: Immediate application of defined national input, including through offering in-country technical expertise and capacity building.

Coordination in the process of improving the defined national input will be managed in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which serves as the coordinating partner in this process. In addition, within the PUMP National Defined Contribution partnership, the supporting partners have agreed that in order to implement specific sectoral activities that lead to improved understanding of emissions reduction and adaptation opportunities in different sectors, which are used as their contribution to improve the document for a defined national contribution.
