On March 15 of this year, the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan hosted a scientific and practical conference on the topic "Instrumental monitoring of glaciers in Tajikistan: development and prospects", dedicated to the adoption of the resolution of the UN General Assembly on the declaration of "March 21 - International Glacier Protection Day", which was attended by representatives of a number of ministries, departments, universities and institutes of the republic and the media.
In the opening speech at the conference, J.A. Baidulloeva - Deputy Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology made a welcoming speech on the actions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation – President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, adopted in the resolution of the 77th UN General Assembly "2025 - International Year of Glacier Protection", "March 21 – International Glacier Protection Day", the establishment of the "International Trust Fund for the Promotion of Glacier Protection" at the UN and the holding of the "International Conference on Glacier Protection in Dushanbe" in 2025, where the actions of the leader of the nation were assessed as timely and far-sighted at the global level.
During the scientific and practical conference, the Agency's management and specialists, as well as other participants, discussed the topics "Initiatives of the Leader of the Nation on water and climate issues in the international arena", "Changes in atmospheric phenomena and their impact on glaciers", "Instrumental monitoring of glaciers in Tajikistan", "Processing of hydrometeorological data for forecasting the water level of rivers of the republic", "Climate change in the highlands of the Fedchenko glacier" and others. At the same time, during this event, the topics of the current state of the glaciers of the Republic of Tajikistan, their impact on the formation of water resources in Central Asia and the current state of the country's glaciers under the influence of climate change were discussed.
It should be noted that the holding of these events, taking into account the actual problem of the day – "Climate change of the planet", provides support and provides a scientific basis for solving various issues in the field of hydrometeorology and the study of climate change in general.
