Dear colleagues in the field of hydrometeorology and environmental protection! I congratulate you on the holiday of the World Environment Day.
This holiday was established on December 15, 1972 on the initiative of the UN General Assembly to "draw public attention to the need to preserve and improve the environment. The choice of the date is also not accidental: On June 5, 1972 for the first time was held a special UN conference on the environment.
World Environment Day is considered one of the important dates for the inhabitants of the planet, since, according to available data, it is officially celebrated by residents of more than 100 countries around the world.
In Tajikistan, World Environment Day has been celebrated since 1988, and as a high-level state holiday since 2008, paying special attention to the solution of environmental problems. Ensuring environmental security of the society is considered one of the most pressing human problems and is a good opportunity to once again draw the attention of the general public to the ecology in general.
World Environment Day is an opportunity to address acute environmental problems, since from year to year there is a degradation of nature due to climate change, environmental degradation, melting of glaciers, lack of drinking water and other adverse natural phenomena on the planet.
On the initiative of Tajikistan, on December 14, 2022, the General Assembly of the United Nations during its 77th session firmly adopted a resolution "2025 - International Year of the Protection of Glaciers. This is one of the rare initiatives. I am honored that on the basis of this resolution, the proposals made by the President of Tajikistan were supported by UN member states, including:
· Declaring March 21 as the International Day to Protect Glaciers;
· Declaring 2025 the International Year to Protect Glaciers;
· Establishment of an international trust fund under the UN to promote the protection of glaciers;
· Holding an International Conference on the Protection of Glaciers in Dushanbe in 2025.
The Founder of Peace and National Unity-Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon expressed with particular enthusiasm: "Tajikistan is a paradise corner of the earth. Therefore, we, the citizens of the republic, must use this invaluable good wisely and effectively to protect it from pollution, destruction from all kinds of undesirable dangers.
I am confident that you, the staff of hydrometeorology and environmental protection will make a significant contribution to achieving this constructive goal. I express my hope that due to your professionalism and hard work our country will become even more beautiful.
