Within the framework of the adoption of the next initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity -the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Respected Emomali Rahmon by the United Nations General Assembly "2025 is the International Year of glacier protection" and "March 21 is the International Day of glacier protection". On November 13-14 of this year, the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for environmental protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization, the Аga Кhan Аgency for Нabitat, AKAH, the International Migration Organization, the Finnish meteorological Institute and other development partners, held an international conference on “Problems of glacier protection in the context of climate change: state, study, global initiatives”, dedicated to 2025 - The International Year of Glacier Protection", which was attended by representatives of a number of international organizations, ministries, departments and leading mass media of the republic.
The Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for environmental protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Dear Kurbonzoda A.H., speaking with an introductory speech, welcomed the guests and participants, and wished success in the work of the conference. During his speech , Kurbonzoda A. H. especially noted:- "Thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Respected Emomali Rahmon, today Tajikistan is recognized in the international arena as a leading country in promoting global initiatives in the field of climate and water. Confirmation of this statement by the UN General Assembly is the adoption of a resolution on "Declaring 2025 the International year of glacier protection" and "March 21 - World glacier day".
During the conference, as part of the presentations of national experts and development partners, reports were presented: “Global initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of water and climate”, “Strengthening and development of cooperation between Central Asian countries on water resources and the environment”, “Study of glaciers of Central Asia”, “Study of glaciers of Kazakhstan", “Monitoring the study of glaciers in Uzbekistan”, “90th anniversary of the meteorological station named after Gorbunov and his role in the study of hydrometeorological processes in Central Asia”, “Study of glaciers of Tajikistan”, etc.
It should be noted that the main purpose of the conference is to improve regional dialogue and awareness about climate change and the state of glaciers on the Eurasian continent, to deepen the international community's understanding of monitoring and studying the state of the cryosphere as one of the key elements of increasing resilience to climate change, strengthening cooperation and transferring experience between the regions of Europe and Asia in the field of studying and protecting glaciers.
