Seminar on – “Ensuring an effective implementation process of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Tajikistan”

Tajikistan is the most vulnerable country to climate change risks in Central Asia and taking adaptation measures is the basis for its further successful development.

Integration of climate change adaptation issues in the country guiding documents (regulations and job descriptions) of key ministries and agencies responsible for the development of agriculture, water resources use, electricity generation, and transport infrastructure development was discussed during the workshop in Dushanbe on April 24th and 25th, 2024.

During the workshop, the participants reviewed existing challenges and issues in the regulations and job descriptions of key ministries and agencies, with the aim of including climate change adaptation into the four priority sectors such as energy, water, agriculture, and transport, considering cross-sectoral aspects as gender, people with disabilities, youth, migration, education, health, disaster risk management, and others.

As a result of the workshop the recommendations on integration of climate change adaptation aspects proposed by the stakeholders will be proposed to include in the Regulations and Job Descriptions of key ministries and agencies that will contribute to the development of a professional development plan for addressing regulatory gaps on climate change adaptation.

The workshop was conducted by UNDP Tajikistan in close cooperation with the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environment Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, within the framework of the “Enabling an Effective National Adaptation Plan Process for Tajikistan” project funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
