Holding a parallel event on the topic: "Human mobility in the context of climate change in mountainous areas – facts, gaps and priorities"

On June 11, 2024, within the framework of the Third High-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028", the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, held a parallel event on the topic: "Human mobility in the context of climate change in mountainous areas – facts, gaps and priorities", which was attended by representatives of reputable international and regional organizations, as well as country delegations, scientists and climate experts.

During the event, it was noted that climate change has a serious impact on the migration process on a global and regional scale, while one of the effective ways to mitigate the negative impact is the practical implementation of the country's plan for adaptation to climate change.

During the event, the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan informed about the initiatives of the Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Respected Emomali Rahmon in the field of water and climate, the implementation of the country's climate change policy and the Government's action plan on turning the Republic of Tajikistan into a Green Country by 2040.

The participants also discussed the global initiatives of the International Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028", 2025 – "International Year of Glacier Protection", "Five-year Plan of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions" and preparations for the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and on the implementation of national strategies for adaptation to climate change and their role in regulating migration.
