Visit of representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan

        On August 13, 2024, representatives represented by Deputy Director General of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Shyahong Yang, Director of the Asian Development Bank for Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources in Central, South and West Asia - Yasmin Siddiqui visited the “Maihura” snow avalanche station and the "Khushyeri" hydropost located in the Varzob district. The guests were accompanied by the Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Sheralizoda B.A., Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, Mr. Qurbonzoda A.H. and industry experts.

        The guests got acquainted with the activities of the Mayhur snow avalanche station and the Khushyeri hydropost and were awarded questions of interest in the areas of monitoring snow and glacial reserves, monitoring glacial lakes and forecasting dangerous phenomena such as avalanches, glacial and local mudflows. On August 14-15, the Agency for Hydrometeorology hosted a meeting of the Agency's management and industry experts with ADB representatives Shyahong Yang and Yasmin Siddiqui.

        First of all, the guests visited the Environmental Monitoring Department, the laboratory of Atmospheric air and Surface water Quality, the Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasts, the Center for Glaciology, and also got acquainted with the activities of structural units and the progress of construction work in a multifunctional residential building under the Agency, which are being implemented with the financial support of the ADB.

        At the meeting, representatives of both sides discussed issues of further cooperation in the field of glaciology, meteorology, monitoring of climate change and air quality, as well as the implementation of the project "From Glaciers to Farms (Green Climate Fund)", which is the promotion of a regional program in Central and West Asia" aimed at improving the stability of society, food systems and social infrastructure in the countries of Central and Western Asia.
