On September 11 of this year, the 35th session of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Dushanbe, which was attended by delegations of the CIS hydrometeorological services from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the chairmen The Executive Committee of the Interstate Meteorological Council of the CIS, representatives of ministries and departments of the republic, international organizations and the media.
Every year, the session of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States is held in each member country, in 2024 the Republic of Tajikistan is the host of this event.
The session was opened by Sergey Gennadievich Shparlo, representative of the CIS Executive Committee, who gave an introductory speech to Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The speakers emphasized that the main purpose of the Council meeting is to reduce the threat to life and property of citizens from dangerous natural phenomena and climate. This work cannot be carried out fully at the national level without the international exchange of hydrometeorological observations and forecasts. Therefore, representatives of national hydrometeorological services participate in the work of international organizations, primarily the World Meteorological Organization.
During the meeting of the Council, a number of important issues were considered, such as the chairmanship of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the implementation of the Agreement on the Interstate Hydrometeorological Network of the CIS, the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Hydrometeorological Activities of the CIS member States and the Plan for its implementation, the implementation of Priority areas of scientific research of the National Hydrometeorological services of the states – CIS member states, on the draft Action Plan for the implementation of the Strategy for the Development of Hydrometeorological Activities of the member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2026-2030 and others.
As part of the cultural and educational program of the 35th session of the Interstate Council on Hydrometeorology of the Commonwealth of Independent States, on the initiative of the leadership of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Republic of Tajikistan, on September 12, an aerial visual flyby of the Zeravshan glacier in the Zerafshan River basin and a visit to the historical and cultural monument in the Gissar district of Tajikistan, the Gissar Fortress, was made with a delegation of guests.
