On November 14, 2024, representatives from Tajikistan, represented by Abdullo Qurbonzoda, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology and UNFCCC Focal Point of Tajikistan, and Sattor Saidov, Head of the Center for the study of Climate Change and Ozone layer, joined a high-level seminar on "Transparency through GOSAT: Proposal of a New Verification Mechanism." The seminar addressed the essential role of satellite-based emission estimation in enhancing global transparency efforts.
The Tajikistan delegation underscored the country’s commitment to climate transparency and international collaboration. As a small mountainous nation with 98% of its energy coming from hydropower, Tajikistan maintains relatively low emissions yet prioritizes transparency to align with global standards. This alignment strengthens Tajikistan’s transparency framework, paving the way for potential economic opportunities in carbon trading and contributing to long-term national resilience.
The delegation also expressed Tajikistan’s enthusiasm for integrating satellite-based verification methodologies, viewing them as a critical tool for national data verification and regional and international cooperation.
