Meeting of the leadership of the Agency for Hydrometeorology with the representative of the Center and the Climate Technology Network (CTCN)

The Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Climate Technology Center and Network (UNFCCC Technology Mechanism) are strengthening their cooperation to promote solutions to climate change problems using modern technologies such as artificial intelligence technologies.

Within the framework of the 29th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties in Baku, Azerbaijan, a bilateral meeting was held between the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Center and Network of Climate Technologies (CTCN) for Strategic Cooperation and the use of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), as well as climate technologies to improve weather forecasting, disaster resilience and climate change mitigation across the country.

The meeting was attended by the UNFCCC National Representative in the Republic of Tajikistan, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Qurbanzoda Abdullo and a representative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), including a representative of the Center and the Climate Technology Network (CTCN).

This cooperation is an important step towards using advanced technologies to help Tajikistan manage climate risks and create sustainable and climate-resilient systems.

One of the main directions of this joint cooperation is: the implementation of a real-time precipitation monitoring network using artificial intelligence technology, the analysis of extreme events and an early warning system for extreme precipitation, the development of a risk factor map.

It was also noted that CTCN is ready to provide technical assistance for the implementation of training programs on the use of artificial intelligence technologies related to weather forecasting for specialists of the Agency for Hydrometeorology.

The partnership also complements Tajikistan's broader climate goals, including its commitments under the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate change.
