On November 18, 2024, on the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the topic "Integration of isotope hydrology for effective monitoring and water resources management in glaciated regions."
The purpose of the Memorandum of Understanding is to establish conditions for exclusive cooperation in the field of integrated isotope hydrology for effective monitoring and management of water resources in glacial regions.
At the same time, this document addresses issues of training and capacity-building in the field of isotope data collection and analysis and dissemination, and improving the knowledge of specialists on the integration of isotope data into the national database for monitoring water resources. In addition, the exchange of best practices in the field of isotope hydrology for monitoring glaciated reservoirs will be implemented in order to facilitate the adoption of scientifically sound decisions on water resources management and the development of early warning systems based on isotope data.
