Participation in a high-level event on the topic "Science–based measures for glacier conservation and preparation for the International Year of Glacier Conservation - 2025"

As part of the general session of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 18, 2024, a high-level event on the topic "Scientifically based measures for glacier conservation and preparations for the International Year of Glacier Conservation 2025" was held with the participation of specialists from the Agency for Hydrometeorology, experts in the field of water and climate, representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), experts from the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNESCO.

Komron Ruziev, Head of the International Relations Department of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, spoke on the topic "Tajikistan's readiness for the High–level International Conference on Glacier Protection - 2025" and in cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization to establish a Regional Coordination Center for Glacier Research in Central Asia, headquartered in the city Dushanbe.

During his speech, Ruziev K noted that the purpose of creating this center is to expand regional cooperation, promote research and develop strategies to reduce the impact of glacier degradation in the region.

In this spirit, we sincerely invite all interested parties to participate in the High–level International Conference on Glacier Protection, which is scheduled to be held in May 2025 in the capital of the country, Dushanbe. This conference will serve as a platform for developing a roadmap for global action on glacier conservation, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and strengthen partnerships to reduce the impact of climate change on precious glacier resources.
