On November 19, 2024, within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, a high-level event on the theme “Due to peaks: monitoring the effects of glacier retreat in the lower reaches" was held at the National Pavilion of the Republic of Tajikistan in Boku, Azerbaijan, in cooperation with the Agency for Hydrometeorology and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)”, which was attended by representatives of international organizations and agencies, including UNESCO, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), The Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the management and industry specialists of the Agency for Hydrometeorology.
During this event, Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Mr. Sheralizoda B.A., Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency for Technical Cooperation Martin Krauss, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology Kurbonzoda A.H, Head of the Department of Global Processes and Water Policy and Cryosphere of the World Meteorological Organization Nicholas Franke made a speech.
The purpose of this event was to discuss the importance of a comprehensive monitoring plan for the systematic assessment of the impact of glacier melting in the lower reaches and exceptional cooperation in the field of isotope hydrological integration for effective control and management of water resources in glaciated regions.
