On October 20, 2025, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo participated in the extraordinary congress of the World Meteorological Organization. This Congress is being held with the participation of its 193 members to accelerate and expand the implementation of the global Early Warning Initiative for All, which was launched by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in 2022 and aims to achieve universal coverage by the end of 2027.
The four-day Extraordinary Congress, which is also dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the WMO as a specialized UN agency dealing with weather, climate and water resources, opened with a high-level event highlighting the crucial role of the WMO and the urgency of its mission.
The Secretary-General of WMO, Ms. Celeste Saulo, issued a call for action on early warnings for all and presented a new progress report on monitoring and forecasting hazards at the high-level session.
