The workshop was organized at the initiative of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in cooperation with the Representation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Tajikistan and the Global Environment Facility, within the framework of the Global Support Programme for Capacity-Building Initiative for Transparency (CBIT-GSP).
During the event, under the guidance of international expert Dr. Samir Tantawi, participants engaged in theoretical and practical sessions covering topics such as “UNFCCC reporting requirements under the ETF and the role of the waste sector,” “Categories of the waste sector — solid waste disposal, biological treatment, incineration/open burning, wastewater treatment/discharge,” “Tiered approaches (Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3) and their applicability in the waste sector,” “Uncertainty management and documentation of assumptions for waste inventories,” and others.
Participants also gained practical skills in using specialized software for emission calculations.
It should be noted that the main objective of the event is to strengthen national technical capacity for preparing a complete, accurate, and transparent greenhouse gas inventory in the waste sector, in accordance with the guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the requirements of the Enhanced Transparency Framework.
