Theoretical and practical training on the Central Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (CARFFGS) has been conducted

From April 20 to 23, 2026, a regional training course on Flash Flood Forecasting System (FFGS) was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan. Sectoral specialists from the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan took part in this event.

The training course was organized with the support of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and in cooperation with the National Hydrometeorological Services of Central Asian countries. It aimed to enhance the knowledge and professional skills of specialists in the sector. The course was attended by representatives of the national hydrometeorological services of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.

As part of the training, participants were introduced to the operational features of the Central Asia Flash Flood Guidance System (CARFFGS), mastered modern methods of analyzing hydrometeorological data, and learned the procedures for using FFGS products, as well as approaches to improving the quality of short-term forecasting and strengthening regional cooperation in information exchange. In addition, theoretical and practical sessions covered the experience of advanced countries in flood risk management.

It was noted that the implementation of such training courses is of great importance for enhancing the professional capacity of staff of the Agency for Hydrometeorology and contributes to improving the knowledge and skills of specialists in the field of flash flood forecasting, risk analysis, and the use of modern hydrometeorological technologies.

At the conclusion of the training course, a closing ceremony was held, during which participants were awarded certificates for their active participation and successful completion of the program.
