The International Glacier Forum dedicated to the International Year of Glacier Conservation 2025 was organized on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan by the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with UNESCO.
The International glacier Forum was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Sulaimon Ziyozoda, Director General of UNESCO Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Special Representatives of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia, Head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia and representatives of other reputable international and regional organizations and delegations of foreign states, scientists and experts on weather, climate and glaciology.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Sulaimon Ziyozoda delivered a speech on Tajikistan's plan to address issues related to water and climate, stressing that the United Nations support for Tajikistan's fifth global initiative is a great pride for Tajikistan and doubles our country's responsibility for promoting water and climate issues, protecting the environment and expansion of international cooperation.
At the International Glacier Forum, the Director General of UNESCO, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the World Meteorological Organization, representatives of the hydrometeorological services of the member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States and other reputable international organizations spoke about Tajikistan's efforts to protect glaciers and their importance, as well as the expectations of the international community from the global actions of our country.
It was noted that the International Glacier Forum, in order to raise awareness of changes in the cryosphere in changing climatic conditions, as well as further raise awareness within the framework of the International Year of Glacier Protection and Glacier Day (2025), the presentation of the Roadmap for the implementation of the International Year of Glaciers will play an important role in protecting glaciers, strengthening regional and international cooperation in this direction.
During the forum, it was reported about the next initiatives of the Government of the country to create a Regional coordination Center for Glaciology in the city of Dushanbe, the holding of an International high–altitude expedition to study glaciers and the Gorbunov Meteorological Station in 2025, the assignment of the status - "International High-altitude Glaciological Research Station "Vanchyakh" ", which was unanimously adopted by the forum participants.
