On March 20, 2025, in Paris, as part of the event dedicated to the first celebration of the “World Glacier Day”, an important meeting was held between Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Professor Bethan Davis from Newcastle University, Great Britain. The meeting was devoted to the possibilities of cooperation in the field of glacier monitoring and expeditions in Tajikistan in connection with the previously expressed interest from the University of Newcastle through the Embassy of Tajikistan in the UK.
The discussions focused on joint efforts to improve scientific data collection and expand research on the role of glaciers in climate change. Both sides stressed the importance of cross-border cooperation in solving global climate problems.
“We are glad that we had the opportunity to meet with experts in this field and discuss the potential for joint work on this important issue,” said Qurbonzoda Abdullo Habibullo, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan. “Tajikistan's glaciers are an invaluable part of the global climate system, and we are committed to deepening our understanding of these ecosystems through innovative partnerships and collaborative research.”
The meeting ended with a discussion of plans for further cooperation and field expeditions, which marked the beginning of a promising long-term partnership.
In addition, Qurbonzoda A.H. invited Professor Davis to the High-level International Conference on Glacier Conservation-2025, which will be held in Dushanbe at the end of May 2025.
