VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE KOREA METEOROLOGICAL ADMINISTRATION TO THE AGENCY FOR HYDROMETEOROLOGY

From 22 to 25 June 2026, representatives of the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Meteorological Institute paid a working visit to the Agency for Hydrometeorology of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The main objectives of the visit were to familiarize themselves with the current state of the country’s hydrometeorological observation network, assess the operation of automatic weather stations, and discuss opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the development of hydrometeorological infrastructure and information technologies.

During the meetings and technical consultations, the parties reviewed and discussed the current state of the meteorological observation network, the operation of automatic weather stations, the system for collecting, processing, and transmitting sectoral data, as well as the Agency’s information infrastructure. In addition, issues related to the operation and modernization of servers, communication networks, monitoring systems, as well as the testing and installation of new observation equipment were considered.

During the negotiations, the parties exchanged views on expanding scientific and technical cooperation, sharing experience, training specialists, and introducing modern hydrometeorological technologies.

It was noted that the Republic of Korea has extensive experience in implementing advanced hydrometeorological technologies, automated observation systems, and hydrometeorological data management solutions. The study and application of this experience can contribute to the further development of the hydrometeorological sector of the Republic of Tajikistan, improve the quality of observations, and enhance hydrometeorological services.

It was also emphasized that, in the context of climate change and the increasing frequency of hazardous natural phenomena, the development of observation networks, improvement of data collection and transmission systems, digitalization of processes, and introduction of innovative technologies are among the priority areas of the sector’s activities.

Cooperation with the Korean side provides a favorable foundation for expanding the exchange of experience, developing the technical and human resource potential of the country’s hydrometeorological sector, and is considered an important step in this direction.
