On 29 May 2023, within the framework of the 19th WMO Congress, the delegation of Tajikistan had a bilateral meeting with WMO representatives Mr. Daniel Kull, Head of WMO Department for Partnership Development and Resource Mobilization and Mr. Fatih Kaya, WMO Programme Manager for Hydrology and Water Resources. Mr. Jamshed Khomidov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Switzerland and Mr. Abdullo Qurbonzoda, Director of the Agency for Hydrometeorology, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to WMO participated on behalf of the delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, a number of issues on transfer of knowledge and technology to improve forecasting and early warning, introduction of new forecast models and use of data from the European Weather Forecast Center were discussed. They also discussed the WMO's new Early Warnings for All initiative. Early Warnings for All is a global initiative aimed at ensuring that by 2027 all people on Earth will be protected from increasingly extreme weather and climate events with early warnings. The Initiative is fully aligned with the 2030 global agenda and supports key provisions of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction as well as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the Sustainable Development Goals.
